About Kyra
The writer and working identity of Martha Damore
Martha Damore writes and works as Kyra. She is the founder of Stillpoint Company and the originator and steward of Kyra’s Work.
Kyra works with what is actually happening — in a life, a relationship, a body of work — and with what would have to become different for what has been seen to be lived. Most of that has happened quietly, one person and one situation at a time. What is published here is the language that came out of it.
This page is about the person the Work came through. The Work itself is described on Kyra’s Work, and written down in the Writings.
HOW THE WORK WAS FORMED
It did not begin as a method
Kyra’s Work was not designed and then applied. It formed slowly, out of practice and out of accompanying people through the parts of their lives that understanding alone did not resolve.
Two long lines of practice run underneath it. One is contemplative and embodied: the disciplines of stillness, attention, breath, and the body. What they teach, over time, is how to become quiet enough to see what is actually present, and how to stay with it without explaining it away, improving it, or turning it into a plan.
The other is the study of human pattern and character: how people are built, how they defend themselves, what they do at a threshold, and what has to be true before someone can actually change rather than resolve to. Writing belongs to this line, and so does the theatre’s attention to how character reveals itself under pressure. So does long experience accompanying people through relationship changes, identity changes, and patterns that repeat despite being well understood.
The two lines are why the Work moves in the order it does. Perception first, because nothing accurate follows from a misreading. Then structure, because recognition on its own changes very little. Then embodiment, because the point was never the insight.
These are named here as formation rather than as services. They are not a list of modalities on offer, and none of them is something a reader is being invited to book.
Originator and steward
Two plain words, and they carry two different obligations.
Originator
The body of thought and practice did not exist before it was worked out. It came through Kyra’s perception, her writing, her lived experience, and her work with actual people in actual situations. She is not presenting a method handed to her, and she is not the spokesperson for someone else’s system.
Steward
Stewardship is the slower obligation. It means giving the Work language, form, boundaries, continuity, and public expression that is accurate rather than flattering. It also means two refusals: not letting the Work harden into a formula, and not letting it depend on constant access to Kyra. Work that only functions in her presence has not yet been given form.
What the Work is, how it moves, what it asks of a person, and where its responsibility ends are set out in full on Kyra’s Work.
Why Stillpoint Company exists
Stillpoint Company is the structure that makes the Work publishable, accessible, organized, and able to continue.
It holds the website and the archive. It is where a paper is edited, given a number and a permanent address, and published; where correspondence arrives and is answered; where a project is held together long enough to be finished; where whatever further forms the Work takes will be held.
It exists because a body of work needs somewhere to live that is not a person’s calendar. Writing that is only ever spoken is lost. Papers scattered across attachments cannot be read in sequence, cited, or found again. Work that has no structure behind it stops when its author stops.
The Company is an operational and publishing home. It is not a spiritual entity, a community, a membership, a movement, or a charitable organization. Where it offers a defined service or event, the terms of that offering are stated plainly. The distinction the site keeps everywhere holds here: Kyra’s Work is the evolving body of thought and practice, and Stillpoint Company is where it is kept and from which it is published.
Kyra’s Work is contemplative, educational, developmental, and facilitative. It is not psychotherapy, medical care, crisis support, or a substitute for licensed professional care.
The larger vision
Stated plainly: truth, personal sovereignty, and the possibility of healing that does not create dependence upon the person facilitating it.
Underneath that are a small number of convictions. That a person can see what is actually true in their own situation, and that this is more useful to them than being told. That clarity is worth more than reassurance, even when reassurance is what was wanted. That what has been recognized has to be built into a body, a boundary, a choice, or a structure before it counts as change.
Those questions do not stop at the individual. What is actually happening here, what is being avoided, and what would have to become structurally different are the same questions in a relationship, a creative undertaking, or an organization. The Work extends into those settings, and its aim there is the aim it has with one person: coherence rather than performance, and capacity rather than dependence.
That is the whole of it. Nothing here promises to heal a collective or to change humanity, and no outcome is guaranteed to anyone. It is a way of working, offered plainly, with a clear view of what becomes possible when people are in accurate contact with what they already know.
Where this leads next is a matter of what gets written, published, and built — not of what is announced in advance.
Kyra’s Work is still being written.
What exists so far is published here, and more is being given durable form. The papers are where the Work speaks for itself, and they are the better place to continue.
